De Iskra is een van de trainingsschepen van de Poolse
marine. Het schip is beroemd om een bijzondere prestatie: ze heeft voor
het eerst de wereld rondgezeild. Het legde 37.000 nautische mijlen af,
de reis duurde 300 dagen. Het schip is 50 jaar in dienst geweest van de
Poolse marine (van 1927 tot 1977).
Sinds 1987 neemt het schip deel aan internationale zeilfestiviteiten
als The Cutty Sark Tall Ships. Bovendien heeft het schip diverse prijzen
ontvangen: 5 keer uitgeroepen tot beste schip van de Poolse marine,winnaar
Cutty Sark Trophy in 1989, En de Medal of Peace van de Secretaris-generaal
van de VN in 1990 en de Fair Play Cup in 1999.

Sailing vessel ORP
Iskra - one of a few Polish Navy's training ships - is famous for a special
achievement; she has, as the first of warships and the fourth of Polish
sailing vessels, circumnavigated the globe (1995/96). She covered 37,000
nautical miles in her voyage of 300 days.
ORP Iskra is the second sailing ship in Polish Navy with
such name. She has taken the name and traditions from the sailing ship
which was in service of the Polish Navy for 50 years (from 1927 to 1977).
ORP Iskra was launched 06.03.1982 in Gdansk Shipyard. ORP Iskra is a barquentine.
